Pricing Configuration

Thorium gives operators full control over how they charge drivers for electricity. You can set simple per-kWh rates, time-based fees, or combine both into a hybrid model. Pricing can be configured locally on the touchscreen or remotely through Thorium Cloud.

Setting Per-kWh Pricing

The most common and straightforward model. Drivers pay a fixed rate for every kilowatt-hour of energy consumed during their session.

The default rate is 0.30 EUR/kWh, which provides a healthy margin above the average Greek electricity cost of approximately 0.18 EUR/kWh. To change the rate:

  1. On the touchscreen, navigate to Settings → Pricing.
  2. Select the channel you want to configure (or "All Channels" to apply globally).
  3. Enter the new rate in EUR/kWh. Minimum value is 0.01.
  4. Tap Save. The new rate takes effect immediately for all new sessions.
Active sessions are not affected by pricing changes. If you update the rate while a session is running, it will continue at the rate that was active when the session started.

Time-Based Pricing

In some scenarios, charging by time rather than energy makes more sense — especially for locations where parking space availability is at a premium. Time-based pricing charges drivers a fixed rate per hour of charging.

To enable time-based pricing:

  1. Navigate to Settings → Pricing.
  2. Toggle the pricing model from Per kWh to Per Hour.
  3. Enter the hourly rate (e.g., 2.00 EUR/hour).
  4. Optionally set a minimum charge (e.g., 1.00 EUR) to cover sessions shorter than 30 minutes.
Time-based pricing may not suit all use cases. Different vehicles charge at different speeds (a Tesla Model 3 draws up to 11 kW on AC, while a Renault Zoe can draw up to 22 kW). Faster vehicles get more energy for the same hourly rate. Consider this when setting your price.

Hybrid Pricing

The hybrid model combines both energy and time components, allowing operators to cover both electricity costs and parking space occupancy:

ComponentDescriptionExample
Energy ratePer-kWh charge for electricity consumed0.25 EUR/kWh
Time ratePer-hour charge for charger occupancy0.50 EUR/hour
Session feeFlat fee applied once per session0.50 EUR

The total session cost is calculated as: (kWh × energy rate) + (hours × time rate) + session fee.

To configure hybrid pricing, navigate to Settings → Pricing, select Hybrid as the pricing model, and fill in each component. Any component can be set to 0.00 to disable it.

Changing Pricing Remotely

If your Thorium unit is connected to Thorium Cloud, you can change pricing from anywhere without physical access to the unit:

  1. Log in to cloud.thorium.gr.
  2. Select your unit from the dashboard.
  3. Navigate to Configuration → Pricing.
  4. Adjust the rates and click Save & Push.
  5. The new configuration is pushed to the unit in real time (typically under 2 seconds).

Cloud-based pricing changes are logged with timestamps and the user who made them, providing a full audit trail. You can also schedule price changes in advance — for example, setting a lower off-peak rate from 23:00 to 07:00.

Pricing Recommendations for Greece

Based on current Greek electricity rates and market conditions, here are our recommended starting points:

Location TypeRecommended RateRationale
Commercial parking0.30 – 0.35 EUR/kWhCovers electricity (~0.18/kWh), equipment amortization, and provides a reasonable margin.
Hotel / hospitality0.25 – 0.30 EUR/kWhSlightly lower to remain competitive; charging is a value-add for guests.
Residential building0.20 – 0.25 EUR/kWhCovers electricity cost with a small margin for maintenance. Primarily a cost-sharing model.
Retail / shopping0.00 (free) – 0.20 EUR/kWhUsed as a customer perk. Free sessions can be enabled via admin overrides.
Monitor and adjust. Use Analytics & Reports to track your revenue, utilization, and margins. Adjust pricing quarterly based on electricity costs and local competition.
